Conclusion:

I now carry the Tusk Extendable UTV Lug Nut Wrench kit in our buggy. And let me tell you; it’s saved our bacon more times than I can count.

Personal story; skip ahead if you don’t want to hear it. A while back, we decided to look for desert bighorn sheep out in the middle of the San Rafael Area, which is really remote. And by “remote,” I mean “where cell phone reception goes to die.”

We had my Dad’s Honda Pioneer 1000-5 with stock OEM Tires still on the UTV. Well, we were in such a rush we forgot to put in a spare tire, tire plugs, and a compressor.

BIG NO NO.

That decision turned out to be a huge mistake. At about 3 in the afternoon, we had been glassing for Bighorn sheep and decided it was time to make our way back to the trucks as it was about an hour and a half from the trucks. That’s when we discovered that our rear tire was completely FLAT and sitting on the rim.

We had no tools, no jack, no spare tire, and no tire plugs.

Luckily we miraculously had cell phone reception. So I called my buddy Logan and had him get my brother’s hummer, spare tire, jack, lug nut wrench, and buy some tire plugs.

4.5 hours later, Logan shows up with everything we asked for. My dad bought an aftermarket spare tire with smaller lug nuts. And it also needed a deep socket of 14mm, which none of the sockets we had would work.

Well, that didn’t work, so Logan and I started plugging the huge tear in the tire. We managed to get 4 different plugs in it. These plugs held the air in the tire, and we were able to drive home safely.

We vowed never again would we not carry the recovery gear we needed to get home. And that’s why the Tusk Extendable UTV Lug Nut Wrench kit is now a permanent fixture in our buggy. It’s like a trusty sidekick, always there when you need it.
